The old town of Luz meaning Light in Portuguese has been changed into a family friendly tourist destination in the last twenty years. Despite the influx of tourism the town has remained low-rise and whilst being busy in high season it never gets the sort of traffic of nearby Alvor or Lagos. The town itself is compact and you could easily walk around it in a short time. There are many self catering villas and apartment complexes located around the resort so you will find plenty of shops and small supermarkets.
The Beach at Praia da Luz is excellent and offers a wealth of watersports activities such as snorkeling and windsurfing. The beach meets European blue flag standards and during the busier times is monitored by Lifeguards.
A bus service running from Lagos to Sagres can be met near the promenade at the base of the old village
